Transitic x SC2 Supply Chain

SC2 Supply Chain chose TRANSITIC to fit its Moissy-Cramayel warehouse with an intralogistics solution suited to its needs and expectations.

The installation was designed around an issue identified by SC2 Supply Chain: the logistics arm of the HERPORT group must be able to send parcels directly to individual customers on one hand (Business to Consumer), and on the other hand directly to businesses or retailers (Business to Business).

Accordingly, the processing of shipments must be different according to the types of customers (B to C / B to B). In order to manage the flow of components better, TRANSITIC suggested two separate conveyor systems but which both had the same starting point. An initial conveyor system suitable for the shipment of B to C parcels and a second designed for B to B shipments.

An adapted conveyor system for B to B

TRANSITIC was able to offer a comprehensive solution while still taking into account an obligation set by SC2, namely the existence of a staging area over two floors (ground floor + 1st floor), the starting point for parcels. An initial feed-in area of prepared parcels thus takes place on the first floor to be transported on a conveyor belt linking the first floor mezzanine to the ground floor, the start of the B to B shipping area’s conveyor system. At the foot of this downhill conveyor, an initial line is for rejected parcels, and a second one is designated for feeding orders back in. The overall monitoring takes place with the help of a scanner placed near to the conveyor.

Another area of this system is made up of three conveyor lines that feed the central conveyor line thanks to handovers at 90 degrees.

The parcels then move on towards an automatic delivery slip deposit system into the boxes. The box is then directed to an automatic sealing machine. In the last step of this process automation, the box is labelled with its transport label. It ends its journey as part of this conveyor system on a comb-like sorting area made up of 12 exits, making it possible to sort the parcels to 12 shipping providers. Placing onto pallets is therefore made simpler for carriers.

COMMERICAL

A solution that’s suitable for shipping to individual customers

In relation to B to C shipping, where 300,000 orders are processed each year, a conveyor system was also designed to increase productivity. As with the area intended for shipment of B to B orders, the starting point remains the staging area; this time, operators use trolleys that have been specially developed and designed by TRANSITIC, which allow operators to complete the picking and transport the various orders onto dynamic units located next to each table.

These are made up of two overlapping, gravity-driven conveyor lines. The lower part of the unit ensures a slope for boxes with the picked items to be packed, thus directing them to the operator’s work station. The empty box is then placed onto the upper conveyor allowing the box to be removed by way of gravity. At the packing station, the items are packed, the box is weighed and labelled and then placed onto the central conveyor.

As each customer has different packaging instructions, it is essential for SC2 to customise this part according to their respective expectations. That is why TRANSITIC worked with SC2 Supply Chain to make 16 bespoke work stations, adapted to suit process and operator needs. Packages fed into the conveyor go through a scanner which makes it possible to identify the information required to sort packages as part of a sorting comb of 8 exits including one for rejected parcels. Parcels are then put onto pallets in order to be taken to the final dispatch area.
