Furet du Nord
North of France
Le Furet du Nord is a French company founded in the Lille region in 1936, and is now the 4th largest chain of bookshops in France. It sells a wide range of products including books, hobbies, games, stationery, multimedia, etc. Its Grand’Place shop in Lille is the largest bookshop in Europe. With sales of €150 million and more than 800 employees, the company is constantly growing: in 2018, it acquired the Decitre group and extended its presence throughout France.
In 2019, the Furet du Nord warehouse and its 40 employees will move, adding nearly 13,000 m² of storage space.
However, new logistical challenges have arisen: the warehouse has one floor, which requires an infrastructure that allows products to be transported from their reception area on the ground floor to level +1, where they are processed.
To meet these challenges, Transitic designed and installed a system comprising roller conveyors on the ground floor and level +1, as well as a pallet lift. The system was designed to handle pallets weighing up to 800kg at a rate of around 40 pallets an hour.
Using a pallet truck, the operator places a pallet on the conveyor located on the ground floor. The pallet then travels to the pallet lift, where it is transported to the roller conveyor on level +1. The pallet moves to the turntable, and is routed to the exits on the right or left.
”TRANSITIC has designed this solution to be scalable to meet Le Furet du Nord's growing needs. The roller conveyors on the floor can be extended in the future by other systems to route pallets to unpacking and parcel distribution stations."
