Improved performance with compliance functional and technological equipment.
Replacement of the WCS (Warehouse Control System) software and the proprietary control system with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers).
Modernisation of barcode scanners.
GEODIS, a major logistics and 3PL player, called on our services to support it in a complete retrofit project.
Faced with an obsolete infrastructure and equipment, GEODIS wanted to modernise its IT and mechanical systems in order to optimise its performance and achieve its new production targets with minimum disruption to its business.
Our teams worked on two separate GEODIS logistics sites, which together account for more than 150,000m² of storage space and handle tens of thousands of parcels per hour. These very high volumes require state-of-the-art equipment to support the processing rates.
Our work mainly involved replacing the WCS software and the control system, as well as the barcode scanners.
For this giant distribution site covering more than 100,000m², Transitic modernised the IT system to improve overall system performance. Two old servers were replaced by newer models and four Siemens PLCs were brought into service.
Our teams integrated the Open WCS software suite to replace the old system. Created by Transitic and dedicated to the supply chain, it enables all warehouse operations to be managed and a 360° view of flows to be obtained in order to better plan requirements.
This major roll-out required considerable planning work on the part of Transitic. In order to have as little impact as possible on production – which operates 24 hours a day – we set up a ‘degraded mode’ that could take over in the event of a computer breakdown. Based on the previous day’s sorting plan, the system is then able to operate without WCS, thus ensuring business continuity.
At this logistics platform in Gennevilliers, Transitic replaced the old PLCs with a new generation from Schneider, an expert in industrial automation and a Transitic partner. At the same time, we added two new servers, including a backup dedicated to data protection, with the aim of strengthening the site’s cybersecurity.
As with the Paris Europe platform, the installation is now controlled by the Open WCS software suite.
”Thanks to our expertise as an integrator, combining mechanics, IT and automation, we are able to work on a wide variety of equipment and control systems, adding or modifying components to improve productivity and increase their durability.
