Verpom
Hauts-de-France, France
Verpom specializes in the collection and packaging of potatoes and onions. Founded in 1991, it is based in northern France and processes 60,000 tonnes of goods a year, which it then exports to over 22 countries worldwide. Verpom has thus become one of the region’s leading exporters, and stands out for its concern for product quality and food safety.
The warehouse has 50,000 m² of temperature-controlled storage space for temporary storage of a wide variety of packaging: pallets, trays, sewn bags, etc.
VERPOM’s business is organized around several processing stages, from receipt of goods through to export.
In recent years, Verpom’s rapid growth has led to new requirements in terms of equipment and production line efficiency. Our customer is looking for optimum management of its internal flows, from the feed circuit (arrival of raw materials) to the packaging lines, according to customer demand and type of packaging.
Our teams have recently completely redesigned the packaging workshop, installing a sorting comb including roller and belt conveyors, with 5 entry and exit points, complemented by gates allowing better circulation between the conveyor lines.
The plastic crates used by Verpom have hollow bottoms, making them difficult to move on the conveyors due to a lack of grip. Transitic has taken this particularity into account by installing directional modules complete with switch arms to guarantee optimal case circulation.
The washing department will also see its capacity double with 2 additional conveyor lines.
In a previous project, Transitic had deployed a global flow management system enabling multiple alternative routes for transferring goods according to their perishability and customer requirements. The automated architecture implemented included operator screens, PLCs and Schneider variable speed drives. This process flexibility was particularly appreciated by our customer.
In 2025, our teams will be connecting all the plant’s equipment to provide full traceability and improve remote maintenance. Thanks to the deployment of Open WCS, Verpom will eventually be able to monitor its plant in real time and collect performance indicators to generate substantial productivity gains.
to manage very different types of production (variety of products, volumes).
to guarantee goods that meet customer expectations.
to reduce processing times and ensure product freshness.
with the Open WCS software suite, which offers complete flow traceability.
